- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 July 2018Perfect!I must be one of the most difficult people to shoe! Since a child I have liked having my feet bare whenever possible. I struggled with fashionable shoes and sore feet when I was young. I am now seventy so don’t care! Fit Flops are fine and I have about eight pairs. After a very nasty fall entirely due to standing in a deep pothole after getting out of the car when everyone blamed my “silly” Fit Flops and not the pothole, plus touring holidays where the ground is uneven, cobbled, rough etc. I decided to invest in sandals from a well known reputable source catering for older ladies. The sandals were not cheap. They had, like all the sandals I tried, suede inner soles. After trying them on a holiday and getting friction burn and threatening blisters on the balls of my feet....(This was after one short hilly walk) I decided that suede inners were far too painful. I tried other makes, it is surprising how many sandals do have suede inners, so no luck. Then my sister arrived wearing the above sandals in a larger size than mine. She has quite a narrow foot unlike me. I tried them on and oh boy did they feel good. So I sent for a smaller size with fingers crossed. There is plenty of adjustment on the sandal. The inner sole does not rub. The reason is simple, aside from not being suede the sandal is designed to hold your foot, firmly but comfortably so it doesn’t move around or backwards and forwards up and down hills. It is like having your feet hugged securely and safely. So, if you are still, reading this you will have gathered that one fussy, hard to suit customer is pleased! You may be too.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 June 2017Absolutely perfect. My last pair of Merrells has lasted me at least 10 years. I can't rate this make/design highly enough. They are comfortable, good looking and hard wearing. I love the fact that the straps are adjustable as my feet do not match eachother and are pretty cronky. The sole is thick enough not to feel stones but still flexible. I used my last pair for swimming and paddling through the summer which didn't harm them. I really hammered them; they did a lot of miles plus they were my 'go to' footwear for everyday use. They need no upkeep, you just rinse them and dry them naturally, and actually, I just wear them wet, they dry pretty quickly and do the same job wet or dry. After all that hammering the only reason I need a new pair is that I have literally worn the sole away. As a walker who likes uneven, difficult terrain I can report that they are supportive to the foot and hold you firmly. I was worried that my new ones wouldn't be as good as my old ones but I can report that they are as good (re materials, stitching etc), in fact I prefer the sightly different design (more heel/ankle support). The quality is reflected in the price - dig deep, they're worth every penny - if these new ones last me as long it'll work out at about £7.00 a year and for me they are absolutely perfect; I honestly cannot fault them.PS, I'm editing this after just reading other reviews; somebody wrote that the colour of the new ones is lighter than the old ones; they darken with age, my old ones were a lighter colour when I bought them. With age and use I've found they go a mid nutty brown, nice.Well, I bet you think I work for Merrel, I don't ?. Get some!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 January 2017... but I am going to India and need something sturdy and something that I can handle standing in for ...I am in India as I write this.So far I have worn them every day, they are not the prettiest fashion wise and at first was not keen on teh colour. However because of the very neutral colour they go with everything I wear.I have walked down the very broken cobblestones and pavements and had to jump out the way of bikes etc and they have help up amazing. Been on v long walks too and they are very comfy. Its 36 degrees here atm and my feet are not hot and sweaty at all, they are very breathable yet my feet are protected enough that I am not scared of something hitting my feet or stubbing them etc.Recommend them highly!P.S Just in work in India and dropped coke all over my feet. Went to the indian toilet and used the spray hose thing to clean them off. all dry in 10 mins :-) I love these shoes

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 October 2019Fantastically tough and comfortableBeen meaning to write reviews but keep putting it off but i wouldn't want someone to miss out on these. I bought these in my correct size and they fit fine. I have difficult distorted feet with big bunions. I have already glowingly reviewed the Merrell hiking boots I took on a 4 week hiking holiday in Costa Rica in February. I took those and these hiking sandals with me. These were also fantastic; very comfortable and strong and practical. It was sometimes very hot and humid and when we were not in snake territory in the forests or in town it was great to be able to wear these sandals. I cannot recommend these highly enough if you care about being comfortable. During the hot days back here when I still wear them often choosing them over more fancy looking sandals because they are just SO comfortable.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 April 2019Excellent Walking SandalsI am really pleased with these. They are very sturdy and supportive without looking too clompy. Not stylish but that wasn't the reason I bought them. The straps are wide and fit the foot closely to the sole so I didn't have any issues with little stones creeping in. The fit is great for me and the straps are adjustable. Plenty of depth on the sole so you can't feel the rough walking surface. I normally wear Merrell Walking Shoes as I walk about 8kms a day but in warmer weather they get a bit hot so these fit the task perfectly. On first wear which was intended as a trial for them, I walked 4kms without any socks and had no issues at all. Highly recommend.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 December 2018Very comfortable. These are extremely comfortable and well made. They are the second pair of Merrell sandels I have had. The first lasted years. I was worried about buying a replacement pair over the internet but they are fine. I put thin leather liners in mine using copydex to secure them. That way you get the comfort of the leather and when they get smelly you just rip out the liner and put new ones in.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 September 2017Brilliant sandals. The most comfortable I have ever worn.!!!!Brilliant hiking sandals. These are the best sandals of this type that I have ever purchased. I am a size 6 and they fit perfectly. They have good ankle support for walking and are adjustible width wise across the toes and ankle strap.I got these in May and have worn them virtually every day since. They are without doubt the most comfortable pair of sandals I have ever worn.So far they have been on 3 walking holidays and I wear them on a daily basis.I dread the weather turning colder/wetter as I will have to revert back to shoes and boots.Even after wearing daily for 4 months, they look like new and are just as comfortable.I would highly recommend to anyone who does alot of walking like I do.Fantastic footwear. I would recommend!!!!

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 June 2021QualityAs the warmer weather arrived I wanted a comfortable pair of shoes for walking to and from work everyday that would also keep my feet cool. I’ve already got a pair of Merrell walking shoes so I knew I could depend on them for quality and comfort and I’m pleased to say I haven’t been disappointed. They were comfy straight out of the box and I’ve worn them every day since with absolutely no issues, I’m delighted with them. As far as fit goes generally I’m a women’s size 7 with wide(ish) feet and the 7 in these are true to size and of course the Velcro helps with adjusting. I’d definitely recommend these.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 June 2020Supremely comfortable, lightweight sandals for serious walking.I love these sandals I had a pair about 10 years ago then started buying ECCO sandals but the latter seem to have changed shape and are rather too narrow for me. I went back to these Merrells and they are fantastically comfortable and are as described proper sandals to walk in - I walk 7-10 miles a day and these were comfortable straight out of the box. Light weight, adjustable and the heel strap keeps your foot securely in place. Not the most elegant maybe but totally nfit for purpose.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 September 2020Fantastic all terrain walking sandalsWhen my previous pair died (after 15 years), I looked around to decide what to buy this time - nothing looked as good so I bought a replacement. They weren’t as good as my previous pair - they are even better, nicer colour, less bulky, snug fitting. So comfortable, even on fifth wear. Easy to adjust front and ankle. Felt very secure for all terrains.

Customer questions and answers
- Is there a difference between the mens and womens versions?I have found that the size that I take in ladies shoes: i.e. Size 6 is perfect in the Kahuna sandal men's or ladies.I find them extremely comfortable.
- I have narrow feet with a high instep , would these be suitable for meYou can adjust all of the straps. I have wide feet so I've found them very comfortable indeed.
- Is the sole flat inside or shaped to provide support? I have a very old pair of merrels and cant find anything like them now! Thank youYes they are shaped and I would recommend them except, for me, my right foot is rather swollen near the ankle and the ankle strap was too short to fasten across my foot. The straps are rather small so you would need a slim foot
- What is the sole made of - I have very hot feet and if the sole under my feet is rubber will they be slippery?I wear Merrells all the time and this particular style is very comfortable even in extreme heat. I have never found them to be slippery
