- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 February 2019Footbed not durableThis is my third pair of these as I find them so comfortable, and useful for travelling as they are convertible. Unlike others I didn't have a problem with the new toe piece being fabric. The other upper strap has also changed and is a strip of leather that's now not backed and stitched as before. But after five week of daily wear (and not in water) this is the condition of the footbed/inner sole. The rest of the sandal is still in great condition, the sole looks almost unworn, so this is only one very weak point on what is otherwise a robust and great style. This did also happen to my previous pair, although after a slightly longer period, hence my dissatisfaction. I would expect more from Merrell - and they are surely made for travel and able to cope with occasional rough terrain rather than just occasional wear in the summer? Also, I didn't undertake any serious hikes in these. I wore them daily on sometimes rough pathways and beach. I didn't wear them in the sea or in the bathroom, so this isn't the result of rain or water. Obviously this a complaint for Merrell not the seller, but I am hugely disappointed and think the company should better test their products and address this issue.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 April 2016Good looking walking sandalsI've worn this style for many years now and never had any complaints.I only have one problem now, why have they changed the material on the toe post, it had always been the same as on the main part of the sandal which was VERY comfortable, now the material is one that doesn't give and on me rubs and makes blisters. They are great looking sandals and until now loved and died in them so to speak!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 June 2020Style, practicality and comfort rolled into oneI absolutely adore these sandals - that's why I already have three other pairs! They are so comfortable and cool to wear because the sole is of memory foam and most of the foot is uncovered whilst still being held in place by the toe and substantial ankle strap. The foot-bed is some sort of synthetic material which looks like suede and can be washed, indeed scrubbed, when it gets a bit smelly or dirty and the straps are of 'waxed' suede with a contrasting patterned toe-loop. The soles are pretty 'grippy' and although the sandals can be worn all day for general walking about on reasonably flat ground, I wouldn't recommend them for any serious kind of climbing or hill/fell walking - they are too insubstantial for that. Just stick to some lovely countryside walks on grassy paths or around town - no mountaineering, or you'll end up with stubbed toes and twisted ankles! They're great for the beach too because the sand just runs back out of them and if you get them wet in a rock pool, don't worry, the salt water won't spoil them but maybe give them a wipe in plain water when you get home to avoid salt-stains.You can also take the back strap off if you want to but I've never tried it because I don't like to have to concentrate on keeping my shoes on my feet when I walk, I like to crack on! Also, some people complain about the heel straps slipping down as they walk and the only reason I can think of for that happening is that lazy people don't undo the ankle strap before putting them on - they just push the heel strap down and shove their feet in resulting in the strap becoming bent downwards, thus inclining it to fall down the heel as you walk. It's not rocket science - undo the ankle strap to put them on and the heel strap won't slip down - simples! One good way to combat this, if you do have a problem though is to swap the heel straps over and turn them upside down but, even better, undo the strap each time to take them on and off if you want your sandals to have a long and useful life!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 August 2018Almost perfect walking sandals - except...These would be the perfect summer walking sandals - EXCEPT - the ankle strap over the foot needs longer velcro to fasten. Currently there is only velcro (ie the hook and loop fastening tape) on the end 1" and it is far too tight. I've never had this problem with sandals before and have quite slim ankles and average instep. Normally velcro extends 3+" across the strap so you can really get it to hold securely on the foot when walking and adjust to the perfect fit. (I'm having to buy olive velcro on eBay and superglue it on). Apart from that they are great - lightweight, flexible, the loop around big toe is super comfortable, the fabric on the insoles doesn't slip with bare feet and the overall fit is neat and elegantly stylish so they can be worn for everyday casual aswell as hiking. I have only worn them briefly so far - but considered there were enough pluses to warrant the bother of modifying the ankle strap myself.(PLEASE MERRELL IF YOU READ THIS CUSTOMER FEEDBACK CONSIDER MAKING THIS MODIFICATION STANDARD ON ANKLE STRAPS - YOU'VE THOUGHT OF EVERYTHING ELSE TO MAKE AN EXCELLENT SANDAL, A COUPLE OF EXTRA INCHES OF VELCRO WOULD BE EASY SURELY!)
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 July 2019Super-comfy practical summer sandalsI've got a bunion developing and flat feet and I was looking for a flat sandal which a) didn't require me to scrunch my toes to keep it on like a flip-flop, b) separated my big toe from the other toes, c) had enough straps to secure it to my foot an enable me to do substantial walking but not too much material so that I got sweaty feet (!!) and d) which also qualified as "pretty" enough to wear with a summer dress at an event like a wedding. Pretty specific requirements (!) but these fit the bill perfectly in all respects. They even accommodate my long second toe, which has prevented me from wearing allegedly super-comfy Birkenstocks due to my toes crashing into the rigid toe box "lip". The memory foam soles on these are great. The sandals look durable and have been my go-to shoe so far in the hot summer weather this year. Thanks Merrell for another great bit of footwear.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 August 2018Truly converted to T-BarsMy second pair of Merrell sandals are as comfortable straight out of the box as my first pair were - though they are a different style. They're very well made, durable, come in such lovely colours and are equally suited to smart dress (not black tie, obviously) as they are for kicking around in on a beach or in the park. They make good boots too, although American sizing is slightly bigger than ours so if you're a size 5 and a half, for example, go down to an English size 5 rather than up to English size 6.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 June 2021amazing. if u do lots of walking... these are amazing.Your browser does not support HTML5 video. I walk a fair bit and have a 5 year daughter. so running after her and being out and about. I've narrow feet with slight arch. I have probs with thing flip flops as they cut into my toe skin bit. but these are great strap is material and thin. all straps can be adjusted as they are velcro. didn't want granny looking sandals but these are highly recommended. im 39 but wana be trendy. lol. alot of money but you get what you pay for. I brought the khaki ones. great with jeans and shorts... kind of sportt look to them. I'm also a size 6 but less than a 6.5. I got a 6. perfect.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 June 2018I love a walking sandal with toe-postsI love a walking sandal with toe-posts, and these are great because they actually look good as well as working for walking. But these ones aren't as good as the previous Merrell convertibles I had because the over-instep strap is rather short so not all the velcro is in contact, making me think the velcro will wear out sooner rather than later. I had years of tough walking from the last pair (the more expensive pink ones with 2 diagonal straps). Also, I was surprised to find that the buckles left sore spots on my feet when I walked more than a couple of miles with these for the first time - whereas the last pair were comfy from the outset. Satisfied overall!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 May 2019No use if you have a high instepI wish I’d read the reviews before ordering these. I’ve returned these because like previous reviewers I found the ankle strap a problem, I couldn’t get the Velcro of the ankle strap to meet. I don’t have thick ankles but I do have a high instep. I actually compared the ankle strap with that in my old Sienas. The strap is slightly shorter but the Velcro is half the length hence the difficulty in getting it to close. This is a serious design flaw and given the similar reviews on this website and on Merrills own site you’d think Merrill would have listened to their customers by now.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 June 2017Pretty comfy except for the plastic connectorThis fits really well, I am a regular size 6 with fairly narrow feet and it fits fine. The sole in particular is really comfortable. As someone who regularly uses orthotic insoles, I am happy that the sole has fairly good support in this area - it isn't as good as an orthotic but is pretty comfortable. I was also concerned about the whether the big toe strap would be too tight but that has been fine and really comfortable.I bought the fuchsia pair since they were 20 pounds cheaper, unfortunately the price dropped another 3 pounds after ordering. They are a great colour, more of a dark fuchsia and not too bright at all.The reason I only give it 4 stars is because the plastic part that connects the front velcro strap to the side support digs into my foot. I have tried loosening the straps somewhat and that helps but it isn't completely pain-free. I have walked about 3 miles so far and it hasn't quite worn in yet - I am hopeful that it will, otherwise this is a somewhat limited pair of walking sandals!I'm surprised I didn't see this mentioned in other reviews so maybe I have got odd-shaped feet :)

- Can the strap that goes around the back of the ankle be removed so you can wear them like clogs/mules?I haven't tried to do this but the back strap does have Velcro adjustments at both ends so I don't see why not
