- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 August 2018Dissapointed with MerrellI was expecting very comfortable walking sandals and when I tried them and stood I thought they fitted well and felt a soft and comfy sole. However, after a walk with them I felt the stitches in the straps started rubbing against my skin until it became really intolerable. Apart from that, it was a warm day the the inner sole, which is covered with a soft fabric, made my feet really hot. Honestly, I felt so annoyed all the time in these sandals, even more knowing I paid for a recognised brand to avoid inconveniences. I never expected this from Merrell and I can't returned them as I ripped the tag of and tried them outside!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 May 2019Sandals were too wideI was expecting these to fit perfectly as I have had many Merrell sandals in the past (including five pairs of Sienna sandals) which have always fitted well and have been worn for 100's if not 1000's of miles. I also don't consider my feet to be particulaly slim, normally being able to wear any footwear. These were however far too wide for my feet. The sole of the sandals with the memory foam felt like it would be supremely comfotable if my feet had felt secured. Ha dthe same issue with pair of Merrell District sandals so perhaps they are being made for a wider foot?Very sad not to have new Merrell sandals for summer.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 August 2020Could have been perfect but too wide and too large overallFirstly, please excuse the ugly black toe nail in the pics! I bought these sandals out of necessity as I damaged my big toe just prior to a trip away to do some walking and couldn't wear closed toe walking boots. I am a UK 8.5 with average to slightly wider feet. As I was expecting a bit of foot swelling in warmer weather, and as I have found a Merrell 8 too small in the past, I went for a UK9.When I first tried the sandals on inside they looked good but seemed slightly bigger than expected in the foot bed. I kept them as I was leaving that day and had no other options. When out walking in them I immediately found the sandals far too big around the balls of my feet and the ankle. This meant my feet slipped about and as the ankle straps at the back of my feet were almost as tight as they could go the 'loose' velcro started to rub after only a couple of miles (I ended up with small blisters under the same strap on both feet). The strap with the round pad at the back of the ankle was also too loose so it moves when walking making you feel as though your ankle is not secure. There are no adjustable straps at the front of the foot, only 2 either side of the ankle and 1 across the bridge. So there is no way to fix the width issue which is really disappointing. I'm not sure if sizing down to a UK8 would have helped as I wasn't able to try that. But given the length was fine in the UK9 I'm not sure it would have been a solution. On a positive note, the sole of the shoes is incredibly comfortable and they look pretty good for walking sandals - the colour is lighter and much nicer than in the professional pics. Such a shame about the width and large sizing overall with the straps as these could have been fantastic. Merrell please make these in a more average width fitting!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 September 2017Great for robust urban walkingI bought these after my last pair of Merrell sandals finally bit the dust after approx 5 years. I largely wanted them for summer holidays where I tend to do a lot more walking in towns or countryside tracks on uneven ground or uphill plus more robust walking at home during the summer months (the kind where my flip flops will just slow me down or hurt eventually from the lack of support). But I still want them to be stylish (I don't want to look like a geek). These are a really nice design and the white colour looked nice with everything in my summer wardrobe. The straps are also in exactly the right places to be supportive. And the base provides all the comfort and support I was used to with my last Merrells. I've just taken them on holiday and they were great. I even ended up using them to walk up a mountain (not intentionally but I'd forgotten to bring the liners for my walking boots so these were my next best pair of grippy shoes) and they managed perfectly fine. I can't say I would recommend them for hill walking - as they are sandals - there's a little too much movement for your feet especially on steep downhills and of course the open design means stones etc can get in. But otherwise I highly recommend these. In fact I'm tempted to buy another pair in case they eventually end up discontinued like my last pair were. My only complaint is that the buckle clip thing to close them is quite small - nice for design but can be a little fiddly if you have fat thumbs like me (I preferred the Velcro closure if my last pair).
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 August 2020Merrell every time.I foolishly tried to save a bit of money and bought a couple of pairs of cheaper sandals. After they rubbed and destroyed my feet, I realised that it's really silly to scrimp on footwear and actually these sandals are pretty reasonably priced given the quality and comfort. I have Merrell walking boots too, which are also incredibly comfortable, so I've realised that I should always just buy Merrell from now on!These sandals are ridiculously comfortable. The velvety memory foam base makes it feel like you're walking on clouds (no joke!) and the myriad of straps mean that the upward pull when walking is evenly distributed across the foot. This means none of the straps rub, and you can adjust quite a lot of them to fit to your preferred shape. Overall really happy. From now on, Merrell all the way!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 June 2018Almost perfectI wish they came in half sizes, as they are a bit small/narrow for me to wear in my usuall 40EU, so I got 41(8UK) which are a bit large. Good thing is they can be adapted with straps, so they fit almost fine.Other than that, perfect look, very comfy to walk in, light on feet.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 September 2019The most comfortable sandals I have ever ownedI wanted sandals I could walk in comfortably without straps digging in. My feet tend to swell when it is hot so as I am a half size so opted for an 8 rather than a 7 . Perfect, there are enough adjustable straps to get the right fit. Most people have one foot larger than the other and I am no exception so it is nice to be able to have both feet equally comfortable . I actually ended up buying 3 pairs in different colours.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 June 2018Love them to bitsLove them to bits, this is the second pair I have had. I have wide feet, which is great with these sandals as they have Velcro in all the important places, comfortable soles, great walking shoes. But still look feminine. Love this colour, will buy again and again, last lot lasted four years and many miles
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 November 2020Pure comfortI just love merrell sandals I must have had more than eight pairs over the years , obviously I just think they are the best most comfortable casual sandal I have found, and not too frumpy. I can just put them on and no rubbing or sores just pure comfort. They come in a lovely range of colours to . I never look at any other brands now I just stick to merrell for casual sandals . They wear well and scrub up well too when needed.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 October 2019So comfortableI don't know why they describe them as red, they're more of a reddy-brown that would blend with any colour scheme. I wore my last pair out last year, having worn then non-stop through the Summer. So comfortable with the cushioning. I have a wide foot, so these are ideal if you need the facility to adjust. A plus that the strap is adjustable ( I didn't need to but you have that choice).Very happy with my purchase, especially as they were discounted.
Customer questions and answers
- Hi are these okay to wear in the rain? Will the memory foam soles soak up the water and stay wet? Thanks.I wore mine in a Florida thunder storm. They get very wet. On the plus side you don't slip and I stuffed them with kitchen towel and they were dry next day. Stayed in good shape too
- Hi. i brought mine in april and started wearing them may... i've noticed that it is starting to break down on the sole and split. really not happyI've had 2 pairs of these sandals previously and worn them lots of times and never had this problem. I've only worn my new ones a couple of times. so can't comment on them.
- Is the Redwood colour very red or more rust/orange as it appears on the Amazon photo? That's a ver poor representation in the picture. They're much darker and more red, but a pinky/coral red.
- Am I missing something?! Sandal fit perfectly except for the diagonal strap with the stretchy toggle on it. There is almost an inch of space! My sandals fit perfectly and I have had others as they are so comfortable. The only thing I can suggest is that they are maybe faulty.
