  Try before you buy

  Bought for my husband. Birkenstock sandals were an accidental discovery for us. Some years ago he developed very painful plantar fasciitis. He was gifted some Birkenstocks and the arch support worked for him like a dream. Painful feet rapidly became an unpleasant memory and he lives in these sandals - summer, winter, day, night. Worth every penny ... though in the interests of a fair review I must say they don’t work for me ... so be aware ... they’re not for everyone ... but they’ve been a life saver for the other half!

  Good price, but check them out instore first

  I bought these sandals from Amazon as they were a far better price than in the shops. I would recommend trying the shoes on in store first to gauge your size and width needed - these shoes tend to come up a smaller size than you would normally buy (I'm a 7.5/8 and bought size 7 narrow). Width comes in two sizes, you can tell which is which buy the footprint on the bed of the shoe - shaded in is narrow, outline is wide fit.The shoes did need breaking in and did rub my toes after a long walk on the first day of having them, but they have softened now (/my toes have hardened!). They are comfortable and supportive (I gave them the ultimate test by standing up in them for 8 hours in A&E!)Negative - the normal dirty toeprints of sandals appeared near enough straight away despite me having clean feet.

  Fell apart after a year of wear! One year!

  I am now trying to decide if these are fake. They have literally fallen apart after one year of wearing them. I bought them in Sept 2019. This morning I discovered the sole of the right foot has torn and lifted up! I have had to glue them. the sole is actually tearing and coming apart all around the top of the shoe. I read that Birkenstocks should last 20 years and this has made a whole year. I have made a complaint but I am well out of the return or refund stage so I am probably going to get nowhere with this. I am so dissapointed!!!"

  Read the description carefully!

  I ordered these to go away travelling. They arrived in time (given that I had ordered them 5 days before we left) and I set about wearing them in at home. They are really painful to wear and I couldn't figure it out as that has never been a problem when I have previously purchased Birkenstocks. It was only then I realised that they are the narrow fit which I didn't even realise was a thing! It does say this in the product description on the advert.... down in the fine print if you keep reading... but I really feel it would've been helpful to mention it in the title as I would have purchased a regular fit had I known this!

  Covered in glue, scratches and come in a box from a different shoe

  Very disappointed as the sandals came covered in glue splashes and scratches which makes me doubt if they are original. The box they came in was also from a different pair of Birkenstock shoes with stickers covering the original model/size.Will be sending them back.

  Don't buy them too small!

  Before I finally got my size right, I bought two pairs of these sandals in a wrong size. My one foot is size 6 and the other one 6.5, equivalent to EU 39 and 40 respectively. Size 39 was a big mistake, far too small. 40 was better but some of my toes were touching the front rim, which is an indication of too short a length in the case of Birkenstocks. I wasn't confident about what size I actually needed and looked up the sizing guide on the Birkenstock website. They explain there that your toes mustn't touch or go over the rim of the sandal. That reassured me I needed to go up to size 41, which is UK7. That was quite a shock for me but as long as they fitted properly, I didn't mind. As I realised during my research, the other key element of a correct fit is the width. I went for narrow but my feet are rather average, not very narrow but not exactly wide. I tried on some wide sandals in a shoe shop, and they were extremely loose! I buckled my sandals to the last hole, and they're fine ( with bare feet ). I'd advise everyone to make sure their feet fit inside the shoe properly and that if they find them loose, they should go for the slim fit rather than go for a smaller size.

  They are Birkenstock’s which if you have bought before you know how good they are. For those of you yet to take the plunge.Not only are they iconic and chic they are so comfy. Even when walking for miles around Berlin last Summer I did not get one blister. These ones are smart and leather just what I wanted. Fit is narrow but I order same size as I take and they fit well. Good price excellent all round.

  Really cool and comfortable but NOT narrow

  These suede Birkenstocks in taupe are gorgeous and look fab with a tan and dark red nail polish. Had to get the 6 which is a little generous and have had to put them on the tightest hole - I suspect they're not narrow because the suede is so soft and malleable. My last Birkenstocks (bronze leather with toe post) were so painful that I've had to discard them. Go for suede, I say.

  Comfortable Fit / true Berkenstocks

  Excellent purchase and a real bargain. i am a size 7 and these fit as expected. Had a pair of these before , i have worn them through but they did last about 5 years. Gorgeous for the summer....my one issue is that i cant get any other colours for this brilliant priceArrived promtly will purchase again and highly recommend

  Check the fit

  Birkenstocks are brilliant, but if you are going to buy them mail order, find a chum with a box from a recent purchase. The fit gauge in the lid is excellent. They’re seriously uncomfortable if you get the wrong size. The leather ones like these are best
